"Beauty and Utility: Treasured Books on Architecture Arrive at the Redwood Library"

Fri, 05/06/2016 - 3:22pm -- anonymous

Join us for a special lecture to celebrate an important acquisition! Architectural historian John Tschirch will speak on the Redwood's recently purchased seventeenth- and eighteenth-century architecture books, featuring "wonderful architecture and drawings of sublime beauty." The fifty-two titles, added to the Library's already significant collection of English and Continental pattern books, are now a valuable resource for scholars.  John Tschirch, who worked on the 2010 Rhode Island Council for the Humanities-funded Redwood Library and Athenaeum Guide to Architectural Research Resources, will share insights on these publications, which are works of remarkable beauty as well as functional manuals for architects, artisans and craftsmen.

Wine and cheese reception at 5:30 pm, followed by lecture at 6:00 pm. $5 members, $10 non-members. Please call the Redwood Reservation Line: 401-847-0292, ext. 112.
