As part of our 2018 Spring Life of the Mind Salon Series, historian Brian L. Wallin will be discussing the story of German submarine Bremen that made a surprise visit to the Newport Navy Base in October of 1916 and the events that immediately followed. To coordinate with his upcoming lecture, this reading list will share some light on the extraordinary tales of U Boats, and their impact on the Atlantic Ocean during not one, but two World Wars.
In honor of this year's Daffodil Days here in Newport, Redwood has compiled a reading list to get you thinking about whimsical days spent enjoying your garden, and other botanical delights. Spring has officially arrived in Newport, which means April’s annual day of practical jokes is right around the corner and we’re celebrating with a look at the French poisson d’avril. Although every holiday provides us with an excuse to scour our collection of vintage holiday postcards, we take particular enjoyment in our April Fools’ Day selection of French postcards celebrating the April Fish or poisson d’avril.
On March 25, 2018, the Jane Pickens Theatre will be showing a film titled Exhibition on Screen: Cézanne Portraits of a Life. Prior to the film, our Executive Director, Benedict Leca ,Ph.D., will give an introductory overview of the life of Cézanne. Our staff member Joseph Rusnak recently sat down with Benedict to discuss not only the upcoming film but also just what made Paul Cézanne so unique.
