1) Miles, William. A Plain treatise on horse-shoeing. Philadelphia: Henry Carey Baird, 1856. Estate of Mrs. Mary W. Almon. Gold and blind stamping on dotted-line grain brown cloth. An exceptionally well preserved cover with a bold stamp, possibly only on an American book.
2) Choules, John Overton. The cruise of the yacht North Star; a narrative of the excursion of Mr. Vanderbilt's party to England, Russia, Denmark, France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Turkey, Madeira, etc. Boston: Gould and Lincoln, 1854. Gold and blind stamping on dotted-line grain olive green cloth. The back cover is blind-stamped only. Yellow binder's ticket: "Bound by B. Bradley & Co. Reverend Choules was the beloved pastor of the Second Baptist Church of Newport, and was asked by Commodore Vanderbilt to be the chaplain on North Star's maiden voyage.
3) Eddy, Daniel C. Angel whispers; or, the echo of spirit voices designed to comfort those who mourn. Boston: Dayton and Wentworth, 1854. 2nd ed. Gold and blind stamping on ribbed-morocco grain blue cloth. The back cover is blind-stamped only.
4) Browne, D[aniel] J[ay]. The American poultry yard;
comprising the origin, history and description of the different breeds
of domestic poultry...; with an Appendix. embracing the comparative
merits of different breeds of fowls, by Samuel Allen. New York: Published
by C. M. Saxton, 1850. Gold and blind stamping on criss-cross grain
bluish-grey cloth. The same vignette is blind-stamped on the back
cover, a frequent practice to hold down cost. Note that the blind-stamped
border is the same as that on the previous cover for Pictorial Life
of George Washington.
