The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick - a reader of this 2008 Caldecott Award Winner found this book fascinating.
Both the art and the story are incredible and the young boy overcomes enormous obstacles to re-connect with his family's
past. There is lots of mystery and adventure. A must read!
I Grew Up On A Farm by Alan K. Lewis is a great book about living on a farm and learning how much work you have to do.
I really liked the part about collecting eggs from the chickens and how they will peck your hands when you do.
The Guardians of Time Trilogy by Marianne Curley - very suspenseful trilogy full of mystery and deceit. Also has some elements
of science fiction. I wanted to keep reading. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mystery/science fiction.
From a young adult reader
The Mitten, by Jan Bret: "I really like this book because I like the pictures. They are colorful and funny.
365 Penguins, by Jean-Luc Fromental and Joelle Jolivet: "When we read this book in story hour on Friday, I thought it was so funny. What a surprise to have 365 penguins delivered to your house! I think it would be pretty smelly."
Lady Lollipop, by Dick King-Smith: "I remember this book because I loved the movie "Babe" about the pig that herded sheep. When I saw his other books on display I checked them out. I really liked Lady Lollipop because the pig is so smart and I think was a good influence on the spoiled princess."
