Washington Jany 12th 1862

B.H. Rhoades Esq.
Librarian R. Liby &c.

Dear Sir,
I have received the Bill for the Boxes for the pictures, preparing & packing them for transmission to Newport & the whole accounting to $28 67/100 - which I should be glad to have you remit me as soon as convenient. I would advance the amount myself but I have not the funds here. Treasury Notes would be a good remittance. The Bill may seem high; but the lumber alone costs $7 - owing to the unusual demand here at the time.

Mr. King has a valuable collection of unbound Engravings which he would give to the Library if they would agree to pay the expense of binding and on the further condition of not being allowed to be taken from the Library & only examined there under the Superintendance of the Librarian. He is having one volume bound (a smaller one) which will cost about $3.- some larger volumes would cost considerably more.

Will you present the question to the Directors, if they are willing to pay the cost of Binding & comply with the further conditions. There may be perhaps ten or twelve volumes in all to be bound. Please reply to this enquiry as soon as convenient.
When you write will you inform me if the Bank of Rhode Island declared a Dividend in January last, and at what rate. Mr Clarke can inform you.

Yours truly
Geo. G. King.
