Another significant European artist represented in the King scrapbooks by at least one original is Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), the great German Renaissance artist.

The Entombment
Albrecht Durer. Detail - 15½" x 11"

The image above is a detail from "The Entombment," one of seven woodcuts for "The Great Passion" from about 1497-1500.

Reproduced below are two of at least four leaves of architectural sketches included in one of the unbound scrapbooks. These ink drawings are on oiled paper - an early form of tracing paper. They may be by Charles Bird King.

Christ Carrying the Cross

Brown and black ink with brown wash. Mounted on paper with border drawn around it.

Both papers are mounted on page from a King scrapbook. When the drawing is lifted from the scrapbook page, the reverse side may give some indications as to the identity of the drawing. It appears to be from the 18th century, in the style of Tiepolo (1696-1770).
